Liberty Park Cultural Landscape Report and Vision Plan

Salt Lake City, UT

Cultural Places

Liberty Park is significant as one of Salt Lake City’s first public parks and for its embodiment of America’s early park design. Its historic urban forest, tree allées, circulation routes, features, and mountain views create its iconic character. As the city’s central gathering space, it is highly active with walkers, bikers, tennis players, bird watchers, picnickers, and many enjoying court sports, playgrounds, Chase House and Tracy Aviary.

To ensure Liberty Parks’ long-term conservation and to guide it’s future to meet contemporary needs, Mundus Bishop is working with the city, community and stakeholders on the Cultural Landscape Report and Vision Plan.  Key goals are offering and enhancing diverse experiences for the community to relax, recreate, gather, and celebrate, and defining measures for the park as a model of urban ecological function, resiliency, and a sustainable historic urban forest.
