Memory Grove Park Cultural Landscape Report and Maintenance Plan

Salt Lake City, UT

Cultural Places

Memory Grove Park was established as part of a national network of living memorial groves after World War I. Since the establishment of its first memorial tree groves in 1920, it has served as a sacred space in Salt Lake City, honoring those who lost their lives or were affected by the war. Today, Memory Grove Park endures as a place for reflection, remembrance, and recreation in the urban core of Salt Lake City.

MUNDUS BISHOP is collaborating with the city, stakeholders, and partners to develop a long-term vision for its preservation, improvement, and management for a more resilient future. Repairs to walkways, stone walls, monuments, water features and historic groves (impacted by flooding, an inland typhoon and earthquake), preserve the park’s integrity of place, movement and iconic views to the State Capitol, Wasatch Range, city skyline, and City Creek Canyon while improving the park’s resiliency and the  ecological function of City Creek.
