The National Recreation and Park Association’s (NRPA) Great Urban Parks Campaign is promoting and advancing green infrastructure stormwater management projects within parks. Parks are ideal locations for green stormwater management projects, and this initiative will demonstrate how parks can become public spaces that produce environmental, economic and social benefits. NRPA has recently funded four projects in underserved communities in Atlanta, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Denver’s Environmental Learning for Kids (ELK) / Montbello Open Space Park. This 5.5-acre space in Northeast Denver will be a hallmark project for prairie restoration, outdoor education, and nature play.
Tina Bishop with Mundus Bishop, and Loretta Pineda, Executive Director of ELK, will be sharing the challenges, lessons learned, and best practices for working with stakeholders and partners in the planning, designing and implementing of green projects in parks. Tina will be presenting at the EWRI O&M of Green and Gray Stormwater Infrastructure Conference in Denver in November; and Loretta will be speaking at the NRPA Annual Conference in New Orleans in September.
