Mordecai Children's Garden at Denver Botanic Gardens
Mundus Bishop designed the Mordecai Children’s Garden at the Denver
Botanic Gardens as an exploratory ecosystem covering three acres, experienced
as a series of outdoor rooms. A portion is built on the roof of the Garden’s
parking garage as an intensive green roof with an alpine tundra. Weaving along
wildflowers and boardwalks, young explorers experience the wind and wonder of
the high mountains, the grandeur of the Great Plains, and the dramatic
sagebrush steppe. Outdoor performances and classes occur within a red sandstone
amphitheater, while nearby, little green thumbs see how vegetables and flowers
are grown. The design for Mordecai
Children’s Garden won the Merit Award from ASLA Colorado in 2011.
