Harry S Truman National Historic Site
Mundus Bishop has completed
two projects for the Harry S Truman National Historic Site in Missouri. A
cultural landscape report was prepared for the Truman Farm, which is the family
farm where Harry S Truman lived and worked as a young man prior to becoming the
33rd President of the United States. The cultural landscape report developed
rehabilitation recommendations, including a boundary adjustment, re-purposing a
non-contributing building as a future visitor contact center, accommodations
for universal accessibility, and measures for visitor wayfinding and
interpretation. The Truman Home in Independence is where Harry S Truman lived
as an adult, located within today’s downtown historic district. In this collaborative
effort, Mundus Bishop designed a set of treatment recommendations for the
cultural landscape that will preserve the character of the homes, and will
rehabilitate and repair non-extant features including plantings and features to appear as they did during President and Mrs. Truman's residence.
