Apostle Islands - National Lakeshore
The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore contains six historic
light stations that tell the story of shipping in the Great Lakes. Since the
discontinued use of the lighthouses, the landscape has grown back and several
historic resources are threatened. Mundus Bishop has developed treatment plans
for the islands and has completed restoration work at three of the light
stations on Michigan, Sand, and Devils islands. Circulation and vegetation
patterns have been rehabilitated to reflect the historic condition, and allow universal
access and renewed appreciation for the islands’ history.
