Environmental Learning for Kids (ELK)
The Environmental Learning for Kids (ELK) Center is an ongoing collaborative project with the mission to bring nature and science to Denver’s Montbello neighborhood. The proposed five-acre park is designed on a formerly vacant lot, restored to shortgrass prairie with artful stormwater management. Outdoor learning opportunities and play nodes are distributed throughout the park, connected by a collection of walks encouraging movement and exploration. Focal features of the park are overlooks, natural play nodes, and an interpretive astronomy center, built of sustainable materials. The design for ELK won the Merit Award from ASLA Colorado in 2017.
